In the Pink

Lise Abraham

I love the color pink!  I used to have a pink velvet sofa in my house.

When I sold the house a few years ago the new owner ( a woman) insisted on buying the couch along with everything else in the house - a testament to Suzanne’s and my complete remodel and interior designing of this our first house project together.

I recently came across an article in the Financial Times Magazine “How to Spend it” profiling the famous Argyle Pink Diamonds. These gorgeous gems come in all hues of pinks to purples and are  much rarer than white diamonds and more beautiful I think. https://howtospendit.ft.com/watches-jewellery/206977-the-last-of-the-argyle-pink-diamonds

In color psychology, pink is a sign of hope. It is a positive color inspiring warm and comforting feelings, a sense that everything will be okay.

One of my favorite chairs in our Ulloo 42 range of furniture is the Pink Goddess Chair.; Carved goddess and lions heads adorn the arms and hot pink and green fabric completes this statement piece..

My other favorite pink/pastel stunner in our range is the Marie Antoinette Sofa. Hand dyed and frayed edges on the fabric make this large and regal confection rebellious and regal at the same time. Dimensions and details of both these and other items of unique one of a kind pieces of furniture on our website Ulloo42.com. We would love your feedback, please let us know how you are enjoying these Blogs and the inventory.

Thanks for reading.

Where does the inspiration come from?

Lise Abraham

We all need inspiration in our lives, for a creative person it is a MUST! Both Suzanne and I LOVE fashion with a passion, we look at magazines, watch on line couture fashion shows (one day maybe we will get to see the real thing) go to art exhibitions, museums, travel, enjoy the natural world and all that nature has to offer, people watch, stare out to space, watch movies; there is inspiration all around us.

Suzanne started coveting fashion magazines at an early age, Vogue was a favorite, she saved all her magazines and eventually when her art took her in the direction of collage work, the magazines that were stacked up in piles became her inspiration to use in her art. Shapes and colors from those magazines form the basis of Suzanne’s unique collage work.

For me photography is a passion and an inspiration, as I am constantly traveling I come across inspirational images all the time. I send my photos to Suzanne when I see something that inspires me and so we are constantly sharing ideas with each other.

One of my design hero’s is Manolo Blahnik. I started buying his shoes in the 1970’s when he had a small shop just off the Kings Road in London. One of Manolo’s inspirations for his beautiful shoes is the Wallace Collection in London. A former private residence it is full of gorgeous paintings, sculptures, furniture and more. Manolo has spent many hours absorbing the beauty of this place and has recently collaborated with the museum in showing some of his shoes that were inspired by the paintings: “An Enquiring Mind: Manolo Blahnik at the Wallace Collection” I highly recommend anyone visiting London to visit this small museum.

Below is some recent inspirations from my travels, this incredible blue is my favorite color at the moment.

African Fabrics are trending in all sorts of ways!

Lise Abraham

On the runways and in interior design, African fabrics are hip vibrant, colorful and fun!

One of the first chairs to get the Ulloo 42 makeover was our Beau Peep chair. When Suzanne came across this chair it was in a drab brown fabric but the scale of the chair, low to the ground, high in the back and big enough to seat two was just the kind of thing that appealed to our unconventional aesthetic. What better than to reimagine this chair in a bold bright blue and pink African Fabric. This chair was a favorite at our launch party in January 2018.

Why you should trust your design instincts

Lise Abraham

Why the unexpected combination of camouflage and fur looks right!

According to Fashionista.com, Fall 2019 runways are making a big statement… print camouflage is BACK and more versatile than ever.

Early on in our journey of sourcing unusual and special pieces of furniture with an aim to deconstruct and then reimagine, Suzanne found a great sofa that appealed to her sense of scale and imagination.

This impressively large sofa looked very aristocratic but, like a beautiful old stately home, had seen better days. I was curious to see how Suzanne would transform this sofa. After sitting with it in her studio for a few days, she took to her sofa canvas and decided that a camouflage fabric would be sufficiently bold and audacious.

Then pairing it with faux fur on the arms gave it a luxurious couture look. Voila! Our Lost in Place Sofa was born. Our Lost in Place Ottoman was then inspired by the look of our original camo sofa.

Sometimes the most unexpected pairings, fit just right. Suzanne’s style as an artist dares to be different, against some norms of design . The Lost in Place ottoman also includes hand-crocheted detailing.
